Dear Sportsman:

Thanks for considering Canadian Mountain Outfitters Ltd. for your next hunting trip. We hunt the scenic Cassiar and Rocky Mountains of Northern British Columbia, Canada. There are no roads and little resident hunting pressure in this isolated piece of Canadian Wilderness. 2006 was our 8th year of operation. We know the area and our game animals. Each year we strive to improve our operation by hunting new areas, practicing sound game management, hiring excellent staff, using new and high quality equipment, maintaining and building horse trails and implementing client comments. This business is owned and operated by Bryan Martin, who has been involved in the hunting/outfitting industry since 1991. He is a hands-on owner, and extremely serious hunter, personally involved with the planning of every hunt. He also guides 4-6 hunts each year, with a focus on Stone Sheep and archery Grizzly. Bryan's right hand man is Dawson Deveny. Dawson has been with the company from the beginning and has become a versatile hunter and exceptional guide. Our entire crew works hard to ensure that every hunter has a successful, memorable and personalized hunting experience. In addition to his Canadian Operation, he owns Asian Mountain Outfitters, LLC which organizes, provides guides and films hunts in Central Asia, specializing in Marco Polo/Argali Sheep and Ibex. He feels that Northern Canada and Central Asia have the best all around mountain hunting in the world.

Backpack and horseback hunting is our specialty. Horses are utilized on approx ½ of our hunts, wherever the terrain allows us, as they provide access to vast country and give many of our clients a better, overall hunting experience. Most of our sheep and goat hunts require some backpacking. We have built our horse herd up to nearly 30 animals and have nearly 200 miles of maintained trails within the area. Each year we hunt country that hasn?t been hunted in recent times. The goal is to spread the hunting pressure out over the entire area, so that each hunter has a realistic opportunity of both taking trophy class game and having a quality and personalized experience. All hunts are 1x1 guided and all sheep hunts include an additional guide/assistant. If requested, we can provide an additional assistant/packer on any hunt. Wranglers and assistants are utilized to maximize hunting time. Most hunts start and end at one of our 4 base camps, which are equipped with log structures and/or heated cabins. From there, hunters leave with a string of horses or are dropped at a remote lake via floatplane, depending on the animal and area being hunted. Most of the hunts are spot and stalk. Calling is also utilized during the moose rut. We conduct hunts which produce results. Hunter success includes hard work on everyone?s part. Our equipment is some of the best in the industry. Most of our hunts are challenging and rewarding, for those who want a fair chase hunt in some of the most scenic and wild country found anywhere in the world. All hunts start/end in the town of Smithers, BC (daily flights from Vancouver, BC to Smithers). The scenic floatplane (Turbine Otter, Beaver, Wilga or Cessna 185) flight to camp takes approximately 2 hours each way.

Our original area is approximately 1,100 square miles in size. For the last 4 seasons, we have leased a portion of 2 bordering hunting concessions. These leased areas more than double the size of our original area, bringing the total size to over 1.6 million acres of exclusive hunting area. Hunting pressure is light. The entire area is very mountainous; there are numerous lakes and rivers throughout the territory, most with excellent fishing. The major watersheds are the Finlay, Thudaka, Kwadacha, Kechika, Jackstone and Frog Rivers. We are located in North Central BC, approximately 150-200 miles south of the Yukon border, and dead center, between the Cassiar and Alaska Highways. Stone Sheep, Mountain Goat, Mountain Caribou, Canada Moose, Rocky Mountain Elk, Grizzly, Black Bear & Wolf are hunted here.

When you book a hunt with Canadian Mountain Outfitters, you'll be provided with a detailed contract, trip itinerary, equipment list, suggested workout schedule and answers to any other questions you might have. I look forward to hearing from you.

Good Hunting!

Arrival & Departure
All hunts start and end in Smithers, British Columbia. This town is accessible by daily airline service (Air Canada) through Vancouver, BC. You will arrive in Smithers the evening before your trip. On the first day of the trip, you will fly approx. 230 air miles to one of our base camps. On the last day of the hunt, you will fly back to Smithers. Our expeditor and a local taxidermist will assist you with checking trophies (compulsory inspection) when you arrive back in Smithers. You should schedule your departing flight to leave the next day. There is always the chance of a weather delay, so make sure your return ticket is easy to change. If you need to arrive or depart on unscheduled flight days, there will be additional flight charges. More detailed flight and travel information can be found on our website.

Trophy Care
Trophy care on your hunt includes caping, fleshing and salting of all hides, horns and antlers in the field. You can generally take salted/dried sheep and goat trophies home as checked luggage. Grizzly and Wolf skulls/hides require a CITES permit, and must be shipped. Moose, caribou and elk antlers should also be shipped. A local taxidermist can ship trophies for you or we have a US Taxidermist who will haul trophies to the US in late October. This taxidermist can ship your trophy(s) to you, if you have your own taxidermist or he can mount and deliver them to you. All shipping and crating is at the hunter?s expense.

Meat Handling
When leaving our camp, you?ll be limited to approx. 70 lbs. unless the floatplane has additional room. If you?d like to take all of your meat, we can arrange another plane flight, which will be an additional expense. The cost can be split fairly among the hunters needing this service. Meat not taken out by the hunter will be used in camp or will be donated to local Canadians. If you take meat to Smithers, you can get a cooler at the local hardware store and freeze at the hotel or drop off with the local butcher shop. Make sure to check with the airlines and Customs before taking meat and trophies home, as laws change.

Gear List/Itinerary/Additional Information
A detailed information packet will be mailed to you in late spring (May/June). It will contain an equipment list, suggested fitness plan, travel tips, assistance with airline flights & hotel reservations, emergency phone numbers and extensive information regarding all aspects of your trip. We provide camp equipment, meals, lodging & guides, plus horse, boat or airplane travel within the area. You can also visit our website: www.canadianmtnoutfitters.com and read or print out last year?s Hunter Information Manual and Summer Contact & Equipment lists, which will aid in planning your upcoming hunt.
